Distinguished Professor & Senior Research Fellow
Stephen Cheung is a Distinguished Professor and Senior Research Fellow in the Department of Kinesiology and directs the Environmental Ergonomics Lab. His research ranges from the effects of heat stress on the brain’s ability to recruit muscles through to the blood flow of fingers in the cold and its effect on frostbite risk and marine survival. He was worked with world champion cyclists and multiple Canadian Olympic teams on optimizing their performance in the heat and cold, along with many industrial and occupational partners to make work safer and more productive in extreme environments. Cheung authored Advanced Environmental Exercise Physiology, the primary graduate text in the field, along with Cutting-Edge Cycling and Cycling Science devoted to the science of Cycling. Cheung is also the Chief Sport Scientist for Baron Biosystems and its Xert cycling data analytics software, along with writing for and managing the Toolbox training section of www.pezcyclingnews.com since 2002. Dr. Cheung obtained his M.Sc. from Simon Fraser University, his Ph.D. from the University of Toronto, and an Honours diploma from the International Space University.
